Jonno Gaze
Biography

Jonno Gaze is an upcoming drummer, percussionist and composer living in Birmingham. Born in 1999, he grew up in Cambridgeshire with rhythm a passion of his throughout his upbringing, particularly influenced by African and Tribal rhythms.
Since his early teens, Jonno been fortunate enough to play at festivals such as Lodestar festival, Strawberry Fair, The Big Weekend, The Royal Albert Hall (MFY) and Young Drummer Of the Year UK 2014/16 - with Drummer Magazine writing ‘Jonno Gaze (16) is to be commended as the most dynamic player on show, putting emphasis on light and shade, tone and polyrhythms. His artistic approach and sensitivity will be essential for someone who clearly has the nuances of a budding jazzist’.
From 2016-17 he studied with Bert Schilperoort, which really opened up his music and thinking, with their time having an emphasis on exploration, discovery and exchange of ideas. He was most recently an Aldeburgh Young Musician from 2016-2017, learning with Kit Downes, the Egyptian Contemporary Music Ensemble, Led Bib, Kabantu, Trish Clowes, Alex Bonney and many others. Currently, he is studying Jazz at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire whilst composing and playing in various upcoming groups and projects.
